The Colon
Forming the last part of the digestive tract and situated in the abdomen is where you would find the colon or more commonly know as the large intestine.
The Colon is a very important organ that has a number of functions including the synthesis of Vitamins and more importantly completing the digestive process by absorbing water- soluble nutrients.
Stress, pollution, certain drugs, toxic substances, smoking and poor diet can all contribute to an imbalance in the colon.
The imbalance can be seen as follows:
Imagine
In a healthy bowel the transit of food throughout the body is less than 24 hours. On average in the UK it takes the body 70 hours for men and 60 hours for women to transit food.
With 20,000 new cases per year, the UK has the highest incidence of bowel cancer.
One out of three people who consult a general practitioner have bowel problems.
What is Involved
When you visit a registered colonic Practitioner for a treatment, they will explain the procedure and take a full detailed case history. The actual colonic will take anywhere from 30 - 45 minutes. During this time the warm purified water is introduced gently into the colon via the rectum. The practitioner uses specialised massage methods to release stored matter. Your modesty is preserved at all times through the treatment. No special measures or fasting is necessary prior to the treatment however colon cleaning programmes may be advised between sessions.
Treatment Needed
Each case is completely individual so it can vary from person to person how many treatments is needed. Advice is given in the consultation and a treatment plan is devised to your specification.
Safety
The colonic irrigation process is 100% safe, there is no chance of bowel perforation because the water used is introduced at a low gravitation pressure. Hospital approved disinfectants are used to disinfect all the equipment. This will completely kill any viruses, bacteria and fungi present. Colon hydro-therapy helps to improve the tone of the colon it is not habit forming like laxatives.
